Empowered – To make (someone) stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights.
It has been proven, time and time again, very successful people are typically self motivated, self starters and very self empowered.
We believe self empowerment is one of the keys to success and to living a happier and more productive life. As a result, we have endeavored to try to better understand some of the key self empowerment principles of those we consider to be E.M.P.O.W.E.R.E.D.®.
Here is our brief overview of the 10 principles of the highly self empowered:
- Principle # 1 – Self Empowerment – The highly empowered believe it is their job to achieve a state of empowerment. They do not believe it should happen by chance or luck. They believe in controlling their own mindset, actions, opportunities and destiny. As a result, they act and their action leads to positive results. They believe the keys to adopting an approach of self empowerment are captured in the following 9 principles.
- Principle # 2 – (E) = Elimination – The highly empowered believe in the elimination of negative influences, habits, attitudes, practices and people from their lives. They realize all negativity can be power consuming and draining.
- Principle # 3 – (M) = Mission – The highly empowered all have a sense of mission or a goal they are working toward in life. There is a much bigger picture to everything they do whether it be small or large. This mission motivates them and gives them meaning which, in turn, gives them power.
- Principle # 4 – (P) = Passionate – The highly empowered are passionate about what they are doing. Their passion is revealed in two, very specific, ways: First, they have the ability to become excited about what ever it is they are working on (even if it is not what they love to do). They find a way to find enjoyment in even the seemingly meaningless projects they might be working on. Second, they always pursue the things they love the most. They follow their hearts and, as a result, they are passionate about what they are doing.
- Principle # 5 – (O) = Optimism – The highly empowered avoid negativity at all costs. No matter the situation they are optimistic and are always searching for the best in any situation. Even when times are tough they see the value in the lessons they are learning. This positive attitude and approach provides them with significant power to move ahead.
- Principle # 6 – (W) = Wit – The highly empowered have a great sense of humor and they are always focused on creative problem solving. They have the ability to laugh at themselves and make others laugh, which is very empowering, and they have the ability to think through tough times to develop creative solutions to problems.
- Principle # 7 – (E) = Empathy – The highly empowered have the ability to understand the feelings and motivations of others. This concern for and understanding of allows them to better deal with and relate to the people around them. As a result, they build better and more lasting relationships with other people and people tend to like them for their caring ways.
- Principle # 8 – (R) = Resilience – No matter the obstacle, the highly empowered person is excellent at bouncing back from a setback. They bounce back quicker and and with a great deal of determination. The empowered person moves on from adversity much quicker than the average person and, in doing so, they reenergize themselves quickly.
- Principle # 9 – (E) = Education – Education is a key game changer for the highly empowered person. Typically, they embrace a lifestyle dedicated to learning and intellectual advancement. It is important to point out that all education does not need to be “formal” education. For the highly empowered person, education can come through the classroom, life experiences, OTJ situations, exposure to people, periodicals, books, museums, travel etc. A degree is good but, for the highly empowered person, the information is what gives them their power.
- Principle # 10 – (D) = Diversity – The highly empowered are very open minded. They do not close themselves off to very many ideas, individuals or experiences. They realize that by keeping an open mind and opening themselves up to the “new” in every area of their life, they broaden their possibilities and can do much more.
We hope you enjoy this system for self empowerment and we hope you become as E.M.P.O.W.E.R.E.D.® as you would like to be. As a good start to adopting the system and increasing your sense of self empowerment we suggest scoring yourself (on a scale from 1 to 10) across each of the, above mentioned, ten categories. Here is a good set of guidelines for how you rank:
- 90 to 100 – You are highly empowered and should continue pushing ahead of the pack.
- 80 to 90 – You are almost at the top and should make a conscious effort to push hard and join the elite.
- 70 to 80 – You are somewhat empowered but have some work left to do before you get to the top.
- 60 to 70 – You are on the lower end of the empowered scale but have a decent foundation to build from.
- 50 to 60 – You are probably starting off at the bottom and need to invest time setting a base.
- Below 50 – You probably think successful people are lucky and have a negative attitude about most things.
